Year 1 and 2

Welcome to the Year 1 and 2 page. This term, we are looking forward to learning about some exciting topics and producing some fantastic work.

Year 1

 

This term, Year 1 will be exploring various fiction and non-fiction texts including ‘Last Stop on Market Street’ written by Matt de la Peña. In Maths, we will be learning how to read, add and subtract numbers within 20 (with an emphasis on recalling number bonds). We will continue to practice our number fluency using the 99 Club where we now have some children completing 44 questions in 10 minutes. 
 
Year 1 are looking forward to exploring whether Eltham Palace is fit for a king in History and different weather patterns in Geography. We will be concluding our learning about Everyday Materials in Science before moving onto our new topic of Plants. In R.E, we are learning about the religions of Sikhism and Christianity. In Art, we are naming and using primary and secondary colours to replicate the work of Jasper Johns. The children are very excited to start their first gymnastics lesson in P.E this term too. 

 

Year 2

 

In English, we will be exploring various texts including ‘Little Red Reading Hood’ and 'The Day the Crayons Quit'. In Maths, we will be learning about money, multiplication and division and will begin to measure the length, height and mass of different objects. 

In Geography, we will be locating oceans, seas and coasts and we will also use different sources of information to find out what happened in London in 1666.  In Science, we will be investigating the uses of different materials and what a plant needs to grow. As part of our RE, we will be focussing on the Five Pillars of Islam and the meaning of Easter and we will be programming robots in Computing. We will also be experimenting with dynamics and melodies in Music and will continue to develop our balance, coordination and confidence in PE.
