Year 1 and 2

Welcome to the Year 1 and 2 page. This term, we are looking forward to learning about some exciting topics and producing some fantastic work.

Year 1

This term, Year 1 will be exploring various fiction and non-fiction texts including 'Wombat Goes Walkabouts’ written by Michael Morpurgo and Christian Birmingham. In Maths, we will be learning the basics of multiplication and division by skip counting in 2s, 5s and 10s. We will continue to practice our number fluency using the 99 Club where we now have some children completing 66 questions in 10 minutes. 
 
Year 1 are looking forward to learning about different explorers in History this term and will be visiting Greenwich Maritime Museum to learn more about polar explorers. We will be concluding our learning about Plants in Science before moving onto our new topic of Animals including Humans. In R.E, we are learning about the religions of Islam and Hinduism. In Art, we are creating sculptures that are similar to the work of Samantha Stephenson and will be visiting Greenwich Peninsula. In P.E we are learning to throw, catch and jump as well as run safely at speed. 

 

Year 2

 

In English, we will be researching different animals in the African Savannah to write our own non-chronological report. In Maths, we will be finding fractions of different shapes and amounts, begin exploring how to measure time and will be identifying and describing positions and turns.

 

In Geography, we will be exploring Kenya and we will also be exploring the significant contributions made by some nurses in the past.  In Science, we will be investigating Animals including Humans and will be participating in a range of STEM investigations.  As part of our RE, we will be focusing on Sikh beliefs and what happens in a Christian place of worship. We will also be exploring British songs and sounds in Music and will continue to develop our agility and hand-eye coordination in PE. Year 2 are also looking forward to exploring what makes a balanced diet in DT and how to make music in Computing.
